Georg Albrecht Schneider 2010 Niersteiner Paterberg Kabinett Riesling

The Rheinterrace, located along a small strip of land maybe 2 miles wide along the Rhine river resides the Rheinhessen Nierstein region where this delectable German Riesling comes from. Mind you, most of you know I’m pretty big on red wines and would prefer them over white wines most any day of the week. Every once in a while I come a cross a red gem that I can’t get enough of. Well, here’s a real switch as Riesling has fast become one of my favorite white wines.

I bought this on a whim as I wanted to try a German Riesling as when I was in college we drank a lot of German wines as they were pretty cheap and one that we could readily afford. This 2010 white wine wonder opened with golden apple and Bartlett pear on the nose with a hint of honeydew melon. On the palate I found mandarin orange, lemon, lime, and peach flavors with a nice acidic finish.

We paired this with South African cold water wild caught lobster tail and an almond crusted flounder fillet with a baked potato and steamed broccoli. At $9.99 this wine will find a place in my wine cooler. The next time I get back to my wine merchant I’ll have to get half a case of this. This would also make a nice gift or to bring to a dinner party.
